It’s shocking! When we heard about the Pretoria Agreement, we thought it was dawn. However, the parties to the Pretoria agreement did not keep their word. But winter has kept its season and proved true to its word. In Tigray, silencing the sound of gunfire did not stop death. There are countless people killed by hanger all over Tigray.
As is well known, the issue of IDPs from the West Tigray Zone is in a very worrying situation. Saturday, July 8, the city was flooded by four hours of continuous rainfall from 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm. A woman was drowned in Kebele 04 of the city. The reason for this is that the city’s drainage system was blocked. It’s known that there are 18 IDP shelters in Shire city alone. Eight of these shelters have been severely flooded and severely affected the displaced people in the shelters. Similarly, the shelters of 20 displaced persons in the Selekela town are also in danger. According to our sources in this areas, an average of 3 people die daily due to hunger and lack of medicines in each of the 18 IDP shelters in Shire city.
The IDPs are suffering from hunger, winter’s cold weather, lack of medicines and other problems. NGOs and local and international charities should be urged to take this issue above all else and support it to save the lives of these people.
