Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with his counterparts from Somalia, Ahmed Mu’alim Fiqi, and Eritrea, Osman Saleh, during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to reports from Egypt’s Daily News, the meeting highlighted the strong coordination and political will of the three countries to work towards common goals and interests. Ambassador Tamim Khalaaf, spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, emphasized the importance of maintaining stability in the region and respecting Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
The ministers agreed to continue their close coordination and cooperation on issues of mutual interest in the future, based on the existing bonds of brotherhood and friendship between their people and governments, as well as their shared perspectives and positions.
Meanwhile a large Egyptian military cargo ship carrying heavy weapons and anti-tank missiles has reportedly arrived at the port of Mogadishu.
Various Somali media outlets have reported in a video that an Egyptian military cargo ship docked at the port of Mogadishu on September 22, 2024. The ship was seen unloading a significant number of weapons. It was noted that the port was temporarily closed to commercial ships to allow the military vessel to unload its cargo.
As diplomatic tensions rise between Somalia and Ethiopia, analysts express concerns that Egypt’s military presence in the region could lead to further instability.
It is also remembered that Ethiopia stated at the time that it could not “stand idle while other actors take measures to destabilize the region.<\/p>\n\n
