The US Embassy in Addis Ababa has reported that high-level officials from the United States have engaged in discussions with the Ethiopian Minister of Defense regarding the conflicts in the Amhara and Oromia regions, as well as the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process of the Tigray Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States Embassy in Ethiopia announced that top American officials met with Ethiopia’s Defense Minister Aisha Mohammed in Addis Ababa to discuss strategies for resolving the conflict in the Amhara and Oromia regions, as well as strengthening the process of disarmament, reunification, and the re-establishment of the Tigray army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the discussions held yesterday, ways to enhance the relationship between the United States and Ethiopia were explored. The talks featured US Ambassador Ervin Massinga, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US State Department Vincent Spera, and Maureen Farrell, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs at the US Department of State. Other delegates from the US State and Defense Departments were present, alongside Ethiopia’s Defense Minister, Aisha Mohammed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Defense Minister Aisha Mohammed emphasized the importance of the bilateral military relationship between Ethiopia and the United States in maintaining regional stability, combating terrorism, and fostering peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite the United States’ considerable role in facilitating the Pretoria Agreement, the accord has yet to be implemented. As a result, displaced persons will continue to face hardships, and the core issues in Tigray remain unresolved. The reconstruction of Tigray’s infrastructure, which was severely damaged during the war, has not begun, leaving many children without access to basic educational materials. Government employees have not received wages for the past (which is the war period) 17 months, further exacerbating the challenges facing Tigray.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
