Former Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) leader Seniregasa announced that the peace agreement with the Oromia Regional State government will be implemented within two days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During a press conference on December, 6,2024 Segni Regassa stated that the agreement was primarily focused on the peace issue and the future of the combatants. He highlighted that the agreement with the government consists of 13 articles and expressed optimism that they will be implemented as per the agreement. He mentioned that they are closely monitoring the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We have come to an agreement with the government to disarm our weapons in the interest of peace in the country, as the conflict in Oromia has not been beneficial to civilians for years,” he said, urging the government to adhere to the agreement for the sake of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Segni Regassa also indicated that his past leadership had prioritized addressing issues of peace and security without delving into specifics. Additionally, he acknowledged that the restoration of damaged infrastructure was included in the peace agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He called upon others in the wilderness to consider the peace offers extended by their group members who are poised to end hostilities and address the suffering of their people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Oromia Regional State Religious Institutions Conference issued a statement expressing their contentment with the peace agreement and encouraging Oromo Liberation Front members still in hiding to join the peaceful solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On December2, 2024, a peace agreement was signed between the Oromia Regional State and Segni Regasa, who led a distinct faction of the OLF apart from the main group. The state government confirmed that following this agreement, numerous armed combatants are undergoing training at various centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The regional government has refrained from disclosing the exact number of combatants, while state media outlet OBN has reported that over 800 combatants have agreed to the terms in Gindeberet, Chobi, Ilfata, Ana Ambo, Midaken, and Jibat woredas in West Shewa Zone.<\/p>\n\n
