The Central Committee of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has concluded a five-day meeting. In a statement issued on April 12, 2025, the committee highlighted its review of pressing geopolitical challenges requiring immediate attention and thoughtful consideration. Furthermore, it announced that it has developed and outlined strategic plans to guide its activities over the next six months<\/p>\n
In a statement issued yesterday, the TPLF Central Committee reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the Pretoria Agreement. It emphasized that the Tigray Army, the people of Tigray, and the TPLF have collectively reached an understanding with the Ethiopian government, initiating the process of adjusting the interim administration. Furthermore, the committee stated that General Tadesse Werede, proposed by the TPLF for the Presidency of the Interim Administration, has been officially accepted and taken office with the agreement of the Ethiopian government.<\/p>\n
However, the TPLF Central Committee expressed concerns over alleged violations of the Pretoria Agreement by the Ethiopian government. The statement accused the government of sidelining the people of Tigray and imposing unilateral decrees and regulations, actions described as contrary to the spirit of the agreement.<\/p>\n
The committee called for an improvement in this approach, urging both parties to engage in dialogue and cooperation to uphold the Pretoria Agreement. It also appealed to the Ethiopian government, the people of Ethiopia, the international community, and other stakeholders to fulfill their responsibilities in ensuring the agreement’s implementation.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the statement announced significant reforms within the Tigray Interim Administration. The previous leadership, criticized for its inability to fulfill its mission over the past two years, has been restructured. As a result, Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede has been appointed as the President of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Region. Furthermore, the statement noted that the people of Tigray have endured immense suffering due to the genocidal war, and that harm has persisted in other forms even after the signing of the Pretoria Agreement. It alleged that internal and external efforts aimed at disrupting the unity of the Tigrayan people go beyond the scope of the Pretoria Agreement and undermine the constitutional order. However, these\u00a0efforts were countered through the collective determination of the people of Tigray and the TPLF.<\/p>\n
The TPLF Central Committee expressed optimism that the restructured interim administration would create opportunities to liberate those still suffering under external control, maintain Tigray’s territorial unity, ensure the safe return of displaced and migrated individuals, and establish effective governance.<\/p>\n
The committee emphasized its conviction that abandoning Tigray or resorting to non-political approaches, such as uprisings or the use of force, would not serve the best interests of the Tigrayan people. It reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing dialogue and collaboration with all parties to establish a national consensus on matters related to Tigray’s national interests.<\/p>\n\n
