The President of the Interim Administration of the Tigray Region, General Tadesse Werede, has affirmed that the primary mission of his administration is to facilitate the return of displaced individuals currently living in dire conditions in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.<\/p>\n
General Tadesse made this declaration during a meeting with Major General Samad A. Akesode\u00a0, the Special Representative of the African Union Mission in Tigray for the head of the AU\u2019s Monitoring, Verification, and Compliance Mission (AU MVCM) of the Pretoria Agreement, at his office on April 24, 2025.<\/p>\n

He emphasized his commitment to working closely with the federal government to implement the Pretoria Agreement, focusing on the return of displaced persons, the reintegration and rehabilitation of Tigray army into society, and the overall execution of the agreement\u2019s provisions.<\/p>\n

According to information from the Office of the President, General Tadesse acknowledged concerns in some quarters that conflict could erupt again. However, he asserted that Tigray remains fully committed to peace and will never engage in war again under any circumstances.<\/p>\n

The President underscored that Tigray has no intention of supporting any political group, stressing that from now on, the region’s efforts will be dedicated to reconstruction and development rather than conflict.<\/p>\n

He also urged the international community\u2014particularly the African Union and the stakeholders of the Pretoria Agreement\u2014to ensure the full implementation of the agreement. Furthermore, he reaffirmed his administration\u2019s readiness to collaborate with the African Union Monitoring, Verification, and Compliance Committee (AU MVCM) to uphold the terms of the accord.<\/p>\n

For his part, Major General Samad A. Akesode stated that his delegation was in Tigray to discuss the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, the conditions for the return of displaced persons, and the progress of the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process. He assured that the African Union Mission remains committed to ensuring the full implementation of the agreement.<\/p>\n\n
