Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sis and Sudan\u2019s Sovereign Council President Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan met yesterday at Cairo Al-Ittihadiya Palace to discuss bilateral relations, the Nile River issue and the ongoing conflict in Sudan.<\/p>\n
During the talks, both leaders reaffirmed their firm opposition to any unilateral measures on the Nile that violate international law. A statement from the Egyptian Presidency noted that El-Sisi and al-Burhan stressed the necessity of coordinated action to safeguard their shared water interests.<\/p>\n
Presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawi said President El-Sisi welcomed Al-Burhan\u2019s visit, praising \u201cthe deep-rooted brotherly relations\u201d between Egypt and Sudan and highlighting recent progress across cooperation sectors.<\/p>\n
Lt. Gen. Al-Burhan underscored the unified position of both countries regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. Al-Burhan and President El-Sisi also agreed to bolster dialogue and coordination mechanisms on the dam and other water-resource issues.<\/p>\n
In a separate agenda item, the two leaders reviewed the security and humanitarian situation in Sudan. President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt\u2019s unwavering support for Sudan\u2019s sovereignty and territorial integrity, vowing to oppose any efforts that might undermine its national unity or create parallel administrations.<\/p>\n
Al-Burhan, in turn, expressed gratitude for Egypt\u2019s steadfast backing. He said that El-Sisi\u2019s efforts \u201cdemonstrate the deep bond between our peoples\u201d and will help Sudan overcome its present crisis.<\/p>\n
According to the statement of the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel-Atty and Director of the General Intelligence Service Major General Hassan Rashad on the Egyptian side. Accompanying Al-Burhan were Foreign Minister Muhi al-Din Salem; Director General of the General Intelligence Lt. Gen. Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal; Sudan\u2019s Ambassador to Cairo Lt. Gen. Eng. Emad al-Din Moustafa Adawy; and Major General Adel Ismail Abubakr, Director of the President\u2019s Office of the Sovereign Council.<\/p>\n\n
