Our organization recognizes that the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission is an established institution that works to improve and control the equal human rights of any Ethiopian citizen regardless of color, race, ethnicity, gender, religion, language, politics or other views.

However, the report released yesterday on the institute’s websites of the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission, which stated that it is a border conflict between Afar and Somalia, is a statement with a political perspective and ignorance of the location of the conflict. This report is strongly opposed by the Afar Democratic Party. We request you to review this report and make necessary corrections.

The borders of Somali region and Afar region do not define them. There is no border conflict between the two regions. The Isa community, one of the Somali tribes, was administered under the three kebeles namely Adaitu under Afar Mile district, Gadamaytu kebele under Gewane district, Undafo kebele under Amibara district kebele under Afar region. This community is managed by the budget of Afar region in Afar land. After this community came under the change government in Ethiopia , they took down Afar’s regions flag and burned it. They hoisted the Somali flag in the Afar region saying that we are Somali and the land is Somali regions land. That is the origin of the conflict. You should know. This means that in Afar region and Somali region, the conflict between the two is a conflict of Somali region invading Afar region by force.

From the city of Jijiga in the Somali region, the Somali military force, armed with heavy weapons, has left its own region and is killing the Afar pastoralists in afar region. We ask Ethiopian government , the international community, the Boundary and Border Commission, human rights organizations and other relevant bodies to consider the root of the problem and condemn this territorial expansion invasion.
