TPLF`S political dispute and its consequences.

After a long period of propaganda aimed at dehumanizing the people of Tigray, the Genocide War began in Tigray in November 2020. The Ethiopian government initiated this war in cooperation with the Amhara Special Forces and Eritrean government forces. The people of Tigray have been engulfed in an endless war for two years, dying from disease and hunger without access to medical care or humanitarian aid. They have endured the longest siege in modern history.

Ultimately, the struggle of the people of Tigray for their existence could not be easily quelled. Due to the pressure from the international community and the threat the war posed to the country’s stability, the Ethiopian government was compelled to reach an agreement to end the war through a cessation of hostilities agreement.

For the first time in Sub-Saharan Africa, the war involved drone technology. This conflict, which rained bullets from the sky and on the ground day and night, was halted by the Pretoria Agreement. However, the suffering of the people of Tigray continues because the articles containing the fundamental benefits of the agreement have not been implemented.

Although the Ethiopian government signed the agreement, it has not ceased viewing Tigray as a source of threat. Following the signing, the government has continued to attack the populace through various means, creating excuses for not implementing the agreement and establishing sub-committees that lack the necessary articles. Meanwhile, the TPLF, which signed on behalf of Tigray, has been unable to exert pressure for the agreement’s implementation due to internal political conflicts. Additionally, the interim government established as part of the agreement has conduct poor struggle to enforce its terms, consequently forcing the people of Tigray to continue suffering and leaving the displaced to live in camps without adequate assistance. The federal government has taken advantage of this situation to prolong the implementation of the agreement.

What is the current situation of the people of Tigray after the Pretoria Agreement?

The accumulated potential of the people of Tigray was destroyed and more than (40%) of territories still under control of Eritrean and Amhara special forces.

According to research conducted by the Tigray Youth Association, more than 78 percent of the youth have no goals or aspirations to continue their education. The persistent psychological trauma and stress inflicted by war, along with high youth unemployment rates, inflated education costs, and widespread poverty, have contributed to the declining interest in education among young people.

Additionally, more than 86 percent of single youth have no intentions or aspirations to build a family through marriage in the coming three years. Furthermore, over 41 percent of the youth are likely to cross the border in search of a better life and opportunities in developed countries. More than 81 percent of the youth are unemployed. Lastly, a majority—66 percent—of youth respondents indicated that they have no political goals or aspirations.
