The validity period for passports issued to individuals aged 25 and over has been extended to 10 years

The Ethiopian national Immigration Service has announced that the renewal period for passports issued to customers over the age of 25 has been extended from five years to ten years in an effort to reduce the number of renewals.

During his statement on the quarterly performance of the 2017 E.C fiscal year, Director General Selamawit Dawit highlighted the efforts made to improve the efficiency and convenience of services provided at land and air checkpoints. she also mentioned that over 1.1 million passengers were served in just three months during the current fiscal year.

Director General Selamawit mentioned that numerous initiatives have been implemented to address the capacity limitations of the institution. He noted that 125 university students have undergone a one-month training to enhance workforce organization.

Throughout the quarter, the institution distributed 357 thousand passports out of 478 thousand booklets, achieving a 97.2 percent implementation rate. Additionally, 259,705 customers were served by the E-Visa system during the fiscal year quarter, with plans for the implementation of a technology-supported system in the future.

Furthermore, the institution disclosed plans to introduce e-passport services starting in January of this year.
