The Office of the President of Tigray has announced that justice for the genocide committed against Tigray can be ensured internationally.
The office made this statement on the occasion of the fourth anniversary of the Tigray War.
“This week marks four years since the devastating war against Tigray began. It has been two years since the Pretoria Agreement was signed,” stated the office on its official Facebook page.
These events are major milestones in the history of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. The office urged all stakeholders to work diligently to ensure the full implementation of the Pretoria Agreement in the future.
The statement highlighted key issues, including the return of Tigray territories in accordance with the constitution, the safe return of displaced persons, ensuring justice for the victims of Tigray genocide, and holding the perpetrators accountable.
The office emphasized the importance of achieving true justice to prevent deep-seated resentment stemming from the Tigray genocide for future generations.
The statement emphasized the necessity of preventing a legacy of vengeance due to unresolved grievances. Moreover, the people and government of Tigray firmly believe that, considering the nature, scale, and complexity of the atrocities, as well as the identity of the perpetrators, true justice can only be achieved through an independent international mechanism.
