According to a statement on the official website of the President’s Office, the dispute between the top leadership of the TPLF and the differences that became apparent after August 2024 have seriously hampered the coordinated efforts to address the basic demands of the people.
“The differences have been escalating over time, and there has been a deliberate campaign to disrupt the government’s work by interfering with the programs of the interim administration,” the statement read.
“This campaign is led by the top leadership of the group that conducted the illegal assembly and is an irresponsible act intended to discourage our people and keep them in continuous trouble,” it continued.
The statement also mentioned that the group has gone beyond obstructing the interim administration’s programs to carrying out a publicized coup and to spread total anarchy.
“The signs in the Mekelle, Northwest, and Central regions are proof examples of this practice, and since the last two weeks, the group has been carrying out a widespread misleading movement saying, “we have reached an agreement with the army leadership, we have finished our preparation to control the government structures from top to bottom”, the statement highlighted.
“It must be clearly stated that this attitude is a self-deceiving superstitious hope and has no truth. But it has been shown time and again that this group cannot think and suggest outside of power and will not hesitate to dream of returning to power every morning and committing all kinds of destruction for the sake of power,” the statement added.
The Tigray Interim Administration expressed readiness to negotiate with anybody without any conditions, emphasizing that talks should be to narrow and resolve the differences between leadership peacefully, not to divide power.
“The division of powers will not be negotiated in any way,” the statement stated.
The Interim Administration of the Tigray Regional State, established in the wake of the Pretoria Agreement, has been working to meet the fundamental needs of Tigray and its citizens, preserving the relative peace secured through sacrifices, as the statement highlighted.
The interim administration expressed confidence that the people at home and abroad would contribute to answering the basic demands of the people of Tigray by maintaining and expanding the relative peace initiated by the Interim Administration.
The TPLF, led by Chairman Debretsion G/Michael (Dr.), also stated on the party’s official website this week that they had discussed with the army leadership and reached an agreement but did not disclose the issues discussed.
