President Getachew Reda has recently revealed that Tigray land is being devastated by dangerous chemicals used in gold mining, resulting in the extraction of over 28 quintals of gold from the region within just four months. He emphasized that he would collaborate with the police, security forces, and the judiciary to hold accountable those responsible for this illegal activity.

During a press conference addressing various political, security, and social concerns, President Getachew Reda expressed his disappointment with the selfish leadership within the party, which prioritizes personal gain over the interests of the people of Tigray. He condemned the focus on solely regaining power without considering the well-being of the Tigrayan population.

Additionally, President Getachew stated that the conference conducted by TPLF was “not lawful according to the party’s procedures or the directives issued by the federal government.” He added, “To preserve the TPLF, salvation must come from within, not from external entities.”

He declared a willingness to negotiate with those who joined the assembly intending to genuinely support the TPLF, as well as with those who were absent from the assembly but still wish to aid the TPLF.

In his response to the questions from journalists about current political, security, and social issues, President Getachew Reda described the call by councils for a duly appointed governor to hand over power as a coup d’état. He criticized the self-serving leadership within the party, which he believes is prioritizing power over the well-being of the people of Tigray.

President Getachew stated that the efforts to hinder the Interim Administration’s work have escalated to a more severe stage.

He condemned attempts to manipulate the security forces to serve individual interests, underscoring that the maintenance of control over power should not come at the expense of the people’s welfare.

Furthermore, President Getachew Reda clarified that any efforts to incite council members to demand the transfer of power from a legitimately appointed governor constitute a coup d’état.

Getachew Reda stated that the next forum discussing the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement with the African Union has reached a point of “I will participate, and you will not.” He noted that there have been inadequacies in the efforts to repatriate displaced individuals back to their homes.

In regard to the Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) process, Reda mentioned that there are 75,000 forces that need to be reintegrated, emphasizing that there is no threat associated with carrying out DDR operations.

Getachew Reda emphasized the importance of analyzing the obstacles and possibilities to ensure that Tigray benefits from the regional context. He criticized the recent actions of appointing a governor to hand over power, describing it as a coup d’état.

Getachew Reda accused certain individuals of hijacking the agenda of the Tigrayan people, diverting attention from their needs for power struggles. He stressed the importance of putting the people of Tigray first in all decision-making processes.

In conclusion, he emphasized the importance of focusing on the welfare of the people of Tigray and urged for a reevaluation of the strategies being employed to address the challenges facing the region
