The Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, is en-route to Eritrea, while his Foreign Minister, Ambassador Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif, is yesterday visited Ethiopia.
General Al-Burhan, who leads the Sudanese army in the civil war against the Rapid Support forces of the country, arrived in Asmara yesterday.
On the same day, Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Sudan’s Foreign Minister Ambassador Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif arrived in Addis Ababa.
General Al-Burhan and his senior officials were welcomed by Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki upon their arrival in Asmara for a working visit, as stated by the Eritrean Minister of Information, Yemane Gebremeskel, on his X-page.
Accompanying the general were other high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Culture and Information and the Director General of Sudan’s Security Service, who also arrived in Asmara.
During the visit, the leaders will reportedly discuss bilateral issues, the current situation in Sudan, as well as regional and geopolitical issues.
Simultaneously, Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif, arrived in Addis Ababa and held discussions with his Ethiopian counterpart, Gedion Timotheos (Dr.), as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The ministers conversed on common issues between the two countries and the current situation in Sudan. Ambassador Ali expressed gratitude to Ethiopia for hosting Sudanese refugees displaced by the war.
Gideon (Dr.) stressed the importance of supporting efforts for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing civil war in Sudan in a way that respects the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ethiopia aims to continue direct talks on mutual issues, including the Renaissance Dam.
General Al-Burhan, who fights against the Rapid support forces led by General Mohammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti) based in Port Sudan, has reportedly made advancements in certain areas in recent weeks.
The visits to Eritrea and Ethiopia, both influential countries for Sudan, may aim to garner support for the military campaign being carried out.
Months ago, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed visited Port Sudan and met with General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
