Tigray Interim Administration Announces Establishment of Advisory Council.
The Tigray Region Interim Administration Advisory Council has been established and has officially commenced its activities. It has been announced that the interim administration has elected Ato Moges Tafere as the main chairman of the council, and Dr. Dejen Mezgebo, the president of the Tigray Independence Party, as the deputy chairman.
The advisory council, established by the interim administration, aims to comprise representatives from the interim administration, civil unions, political parties operating in the region, the Tigray diaspora, regional intellectuals, and security agencies.
Tigray Television reported that representatives of the region’s security forces, the Salsay Weyane Tigray Political Party, the TPLF, and members of the region’s diaspora did not participate in the advisory council’s inaugural session.
President Getachew Reda extended an invitation to these groups to participate in the future. However, the Salsay Weyane Tigray party issued a statement prior to the inauguration, declaring that the council lacks the authority to make decisions and therefore they would not participate in a council without decision-making power.
The party accused the interim administration of deviating from the recommendations of the committee appointed to establish the advisory council and altering the establishment rules to suit its own interests.
During the establishment event, President Getachew Reda emphasized the critical importance of the advisory council in monitoring and supporting the performance of Tigray’s Interim administration offices and making recommendations based on current needs and circumstances.
“Rather than viewing our differences as a source of shame, we should consider them as natural and focus on the issues that unite us, ensuring our future existence,” he stressed.
President Getachew Reda also presented the next six months’ plan of his administration to the advisory council, which was reviewed and approved with eight abstentions. He highlighted that the primary goal for the next six months is to return the displaced people of the region to their villages and called for everyone’s cooperation in achieving this.
According to the information we received from our sources, the six-month plan was approved by the advisory council members, despite the absence of army leaders. It is noteworthy that the top leaders of the Tigray army recently announced their decision to adjust the interim administration, citing its failure to fulfill its responsibilities.
