A delegation led by the Netherlands Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ambassador Christine Pirenne, held discussions with Tigray Interim Administration President, Getachew Reda, regarding the current political situation in Tigray.
President Getachew Reda expressed the concerns of the Tigray people about the non-implementation of the Pretoria Agreement and the ongoing political crisis. He emphasized the importance of continued Dutch assistance for the full implementation of the agreement.
Highlighting the Dutch government’s involvement in various projects in Tigray, President Getachew noted that resolving the comprehensive problems faced by the people of Tigray is contingent upon the full implementation of the Pretoria peace agreement.
Addressing foreign interference, President Getachew stated that it is exacerbating the political issues in Tigray. However, it was not disclosed who and on what issue President Getachew was referring to as foreign interference.
He emphasized that the issues faced by the people of Tigray, particularly the displaced persons, can only be resolved when they are able to return to their homes. He requested support from the Netherlands to help address this challenge.
Ambassador Christine Pirenne also affirmed that her country is actively engaged in humanitarian aid, water supply, and other projects in Tigray. She assured that the Netherlands is committed to supporting the full implementation of the Pretoria Agreement and addressing the problems in Tigray.
During her one-day visit, Ambassador Christine Pirenne is scheduled to hold discussions with TPLF Chairman Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael, as well as other leaders, civil society members, and intellectuals, according to state media reports.
