As Ethiopia continues to struggle with internal conflicts, U.S. Ambassador to Ethiopia Ervin Massinga has renewed calls for peace, urging all parties to prioritize the well-being of the Ethiopian people.

In a statement released today, Massinga emphasized the need for lasting solutions to the country’s instability, advocating for efforts to return internally displaced persons to their homes, ensure children have access to education and healthcare, and end lawlessness masquerading as part of an armed struggle.

The ambassador also addressed key parties in the conflict, urging Fano to adopt realistic and peaceful objectives, calling on the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) to advance negotiations toward ending violence in Oromia, and demanding that the federal government cease drone strikes against civilians while facilitating broader conflict resolution efforts.

“It is time to pursue peace and stability,” Massinga stated, reinforcing the United States’ commitment to supporting efforts that lead to a lasting resolution.

His statement comes amid growing concerns over the humanitarian impact of Ethiopia’s ongoing conflicts, marked by continued displacement, disruption of essential services, and the failure to implement the Pretoria Agreement, which was expected to facilitate the repatriation of more than one million internally displaced persons (IDPs) from western Tigray and restore Tigray’s territorial integrity in accordance with the Ethiopian constitution.
