On May 28, 2025, delegations from eight countries, including the European Union and the United States, visited rehabilitation training centers in the Tigray region. These centers were established to support the reintegration of former Tigray Army members into society.

According to Tigray Television, representatives from the United States, the European Union, Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, France, and Denmark toured the Adiberak training center, which has been operational since April 2025.

Asay Gebremedhn, coordinator at the rehabilitation center, stated that the facility has successfully reintegrated nearly 5,000 former combatants into civilian life since its inception.

Additionally, the Director of the United Nations Development Program’s Directorate for the Disarmament, Demobilization and Re-integration (DDR process) in Ethiopia, Mr. Bassil Massey, said that the purpose of the visit was to assess the progress of the reintegration process. “We have observed that the process is being effectively implemented with the participation and collaboration of all stakeholders,” he noted.

Mr. Bassil also highlighted the substantial role donor countries have played in financing the initiative—from the initial planning stage to budget allocation and monitoring of implementation. “The integration of former fighters into society is a complex process that requires sustained support and coordination,” he added.

Regarding future improvements, Mr. Bassil stated that enhancements to the training center would be determined based on contributions from the federal government, the interim regional administration, and the Rehabilitation commission.

Furthermore, the director revealed that 11 donor countries are providing financial assistance for the rehabilitation program. “The efforts of the Rehabilitation Commission are yielding positive results,” he remarked.

The coordinator of the Adiberak training camp, Ato Asay Gebremedhin, also reported that approximately 200 former fighters complete their training and are reintegrated into society each week. Since its launch in April 2025, the center has trained and reintegrated over 4,800 former fighters.

It is worth noting that the official disarmament and reintegration process for 75,000 former combatants in Tigray commenced on November 22, 2024.
