The Salsay Weyane Tigray Party, a political organization operating in the Tigray region of Ethiopia, has announced a significant leadership change following the voluntary resignation of its chairman, Alula Hailu Nega.
In an official statement released by the party, Alula—who served the organization for six years in both vice chairman and chairman roles—tendered his resignation during a general leadership meeting held last weekend.
“Now I must prepare for greater struggles. I believe voluntary resignation will become a norm and a culture in our party and in Tigray politics,” Alula wrote on his Facebook page. “Power is a place of work. And work is tiring, so it is appropriate to hand it over to someone else,” he added.
The party confirmed it has accepted Alula’s resignation and announced that Kenfe Hadush has been elected as the new chairman of Salsai Weyane Tigray.
