Salsay Weyane Tigray Warns of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis in IDP Camps.

— The political party Salsay Weyane Tigray has raised urgent concerns about worsening humanitarian conditions in displacement camps across the region, warning that millions of internally displaced people (IDPs) are enduring intolerable hardship.

In a statement released yesterday, the party described the plight of displaced Tigrayans as the result of “grave international crimes,” pointing to long-standing shortages of food, shelter, and basic services. Recent reports of severe malnutrition at the Hitsats camp in northwestern Tigray were cited as evidence of a broader emergency affecting countless families.

Years of Neglect
Displacement in Tigray has persisted for more than five years, with communities facing acute deprivation despite the peace agreement signed nearly three years ago. The party criticized both signatories and international observers for failing to uphold their commitments, leaving millions frustrated and vulnerable.

The crisis is not confined to Hitsats. Salsay Weyane Tigray highlighted assessments showing dire conditions across multiple camps. At Seb’a Kare near Mekelle, two children were killed by hyenas — a tragedy the party said could have been prevented with adequate protection and security measures.

According to the statement, the suffering continues not because of a lack of resources but because of insufficient political will. The party accused relevant actors of manipulating the situation and safe return of displaced communities.

Call for Immediate Action
Salsay Weyane Tigray urged humanitarian agencies, human rights groups, and international organizations to intervene without delay. “There is a moral and legal responsibility to address the crisis and to pressure the government to reverse policies that disadvantage IDPs and refugees,” the party declared.
