Statement Condemning the Ethiopian Government’s Unprovoked Drone Attack in Tigray

The Union of Tigrayans in North America (UTNA) strongly condemns the Ethiopian Government’s drone attacks in Gemehalo, Tigray, which targeted civilians and other individuals engaged in their daily activities. This unprovoked attack caused loss of life, bodily injuries, and destruction of property. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families of the victims and all those whose lives have been disrupted by this tragedy.

UTNA states that this attack is a continuation of the war against Tigray instigated in 2020 by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government. UTNA further asserts that this attack is a serious violation of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA) signed in Pretoria, as well as international human rights laws, and should be condemned by all parties committed to peace.

We call on the international community and the guarantors of the CoHA to condemn the drone attacks and the continued occupation of sovereign Tigray Territory by government sponsored armed militias.

We call on all Tigrayans to remain united and stand by the side of the Tigrayan people in defending the interests of Tigray.

Finally, We, the UTNA reiterate our resolute condemnation of the Ethiopian Government’s actions and our unreserved and unwavering support to the Government, the People, and the security forces of Tigray.

Eternal Honor and Glory to our martyrs!
