Ethiopia and Uganda are urged to carefully review post-ATMIS preparations.
Ethiopia and Uganda have stressed the need for a thorough investigation before making any decisions regarding post-African Union Transition Mission (ATMIS) preparation in Somalia.
During a discussion held by their foreign ministers in New York on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Ethiopia and Uganda emphasized the importance of carefully examining key issues before moving forward with any post-(ATMIS) preparation.
Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Taye, disclosed that his meeting with his Ugandan counterpart, Gen. Odongo Jeje Abubakher covered various topics, including the security situation in the Horn of Africa, particularly in Somalia. Both parties agreed that a rushed post-(ATMIS) preparation could potentially undermine the progress made in the fight against terrorism.
Ambassador Taye also stated that Ethiopia will take part in the upcoming second Nile Summit hosted by Uganda in October. This summit will serve as a crucial step in establishing the Nile River Basin Commission and implementing a cooperation framework to ensure the fair and equitable utilization of the Nile River’s resources among riparian countries.
The implementation of the cooperation framework agreement is seen as a positive development that will enhance cooperation and resource sharing among Nile Basin countries.
