Tigray IRA President Getachew Reda renews commitment to rebuild relations with Afar after a significant meeting with Afar Regional State President Awol Arba in Semera today. The discussions at this high-level meeting focused on current security issues, strategies to improve political collaboration, and efforts to strengthen the strong bonds between the adjacent regions.
Both leaders at the meeting expressed a joint commitment to resolving tensions affecting border communities impacted by the war. The talks emphasized the importance of promoting peace and taking a united approach to the security challenges faced in the border regions. They mutually agreed to cooperate in facilitating the safe return of citizens who were displaced during the war.
Following the meeting, Getachew Reda shared a statement on social media highlighting the historical significance of the relationship between Tigray and Afar. He emphasized the importance of restoring connections between the two peoples. Getachew expressed, “We have come to an agreement to fully restore the deep connection between our communities. People-to-people relations will be reinstated, and those displaced by the war will return home.”
In addition, the leaders pledged to reopen critical transportation routes that had been closed, aiming to revive essential infrastructure and economic activities in the regions. They underscored the need for establishing a cooperative framework across legal, political, and economic sectors to prevent tensions and foster sustainable development
