A three-day conference of African defense ministers is set to commence today, October 15, 2024, in Addis Ababa. This gathering, organized by Ethiopia, is the first of its kind initiated by the country with the aim of discussing important security issues facing the continent.
Minister of Defense Engineer Aisha Mohammed announced that the conference will focus on the theme “Africa, in strong unity, for universal security and peace.” The Minister emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and joint consultations given the current global security situation.
The conference will delve into topics aimed at enhancing Africa’s security framework and strengthening military cooperation among nations. The importance of forming closer partnerships to combat terrorism and address security threats, both within Africa and on a global scale, was emphasized.
Furthermore, discussions will revolve around strategies to improve the continent’s military capabilities and resources, as well as ways in which African countries, including Ethiopia, can contribute to international peacekeeping efforts. The conference will bring together African defense ministers, senior military officials, military attachés based in Addis Ababa, and experts in military affairs.
This gathering promises to be a critical forum for exchanging ideas, fostering cooperation, and working towards a more secure and peaceful Africa according to the Ethiopian news agency report.
