Mr. Getachew Reda, President of the Tigray Interim Administration, announced on his verified social media page that he had a discussion with Dr. Debretsion Gebremichael. President Getachew Reda expressed, “There is nothing like a close discussion,” and extended his gratitude to those who facilitated their meeting.

The photo of President Getachew Reda and TPLF Chairman Dr. Debretsion G/Michael has been widely shared, with many people offering their opinions. While the majority have received the image positively, a few are circulating the photo with messages claiming it to be false.

The conflict began earlier when members of the interim administration and the TPLF executive committee, such as Getachew Reda, withdrew from the party’s General Assembly. After the conference, the TPLF, led by Dr. Debretsion decided to suspend members, including Getachew Reda, who had withdrawn from the 14th TPLF General Assembly, from any political activities in the name of TPLF.

The ensuing disagreement not only created a perilous situation for many but also diverted attention from critical issues such as the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement and the repatriation of displaced individuals living in dire conditions. The federal government appears to be seizing this moment to inflict harm on the people of Tigray, persisting in its objective to keep Tigray in a state of debilitation.

Even now, the specific issues discussed and agreed upon have not been disclosed. Meanwhile, the Pretoria Agreement remains unimplemented, and Tigray lacks the representation it merits in the federal government. Contrary to the stipulations of the Pretoria Agreement, which the federal government publicly signed, the autonomous territories of Tigray remain under the control of the Eritrean army. and the local populace has not been able to return. Those in exile are enduring violence and hardship, suffering from hunger, cold, and psychological stress without adequate assistance.

Our observations indicate that numerous individuals are hopeful that this discussion will bolster Tigray’s negotiating strength and present an opportunity to exert suitable pressure on the federal government.
