The Ethiopian National Consultative Commission has requested the assistance of the House of People’s Representatives in identifying the agenda and participants in the Tigray region. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tagese chaffo, expressed his willingness to collaborate, stating “We will work together to create an enabling situation. We will consult with the region.”

The National Consultation Commission, established nearly three years ago, submitted a performance report to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 18, 2024. The chief commissioner of the commission, Prof. Mesfin Araya, outlined the commission’s accomplishments and remaining tasks.

Prof. Mesfin cited challenges faced by the commission over the past three years, including incidents in Western Ethiopia and West Oromia. He highlighted the resolution of issues in Benishangul Gumuz and Gambella regions but emphasized the need for creating an enabling environment in Amhara and the Tigray region.

The chief commissioner stressed the importance of working in Tigray once feasible conditions are established, noting that discussions have already taken place with the interim administration. Despite not being able to engage directly with Tigray residents, the commission has collaborated with civil society organizations and university leaders.
