The TPLF has issued a statement regarding current affairs in Tigray. They announced that they are currently in talks with the federal government on how and who will replace Getachew Reda as president in accordance with the Pretoria agreement. The TPLF stated that this anti-people group, without any representation from the people of Tigray, continues to use various tactics to disrupt the unity of the people of Tigray and seize power through riots and chaos.

“The group has been saying that it does not recognize the representative councils and does not accept the sovereignty of the people,” TPLF stated in its statement.

Additionally, the TPLF announced that according to Article 8 of the Constitution of the National Regional State of Tigray, it provides that the people of Tigray are the sovereign of the Tigray Government and their sovereignty is expressed through their elected representatives and direct democratic participation. However, this group has violated this supreme ownership of the people’s power and is making efforts to impose a dictatorial regime on the people of Tigray.

The TPLF also announced that on December 2, 2024, the group as part of its movement attempted to forcefully take control of the Mekele administration office, aiming to remove the official legally appointed by the city council. This blatant disregard for the people of Tigray and the local councils demonstrates the group’s strong desire for power at any cost.

The TPLF strongly condemned the actions of this rogue group, emphasizing that the actions of the group undermining the sacrifices made by the people of Tigray to establish a democratic system.

Furthermore, the TPLF called on the people to bolster their organizations and increase their efforts to combat this anti-people movement. The TPLF also urged justice and security agencies to swiftly hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions and uphold the rule of law.

The TPLF also reminded the withdrawal of its representation from the Interim administration president Getachew Reda and other cabinet members of the interim administration.
