The people of Tigray are compelled to enter another new year with none of their demands fulfilled, despite our fervent appeals. The paramount issue – the withdrawal of all aggressor forces from Tigrayan territories – remains unresolved. Emboldened by the global community’s silence and exploiting domestic political instability, the Ethiopian government continues to implement measures that obstruct the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their homes by creating security threats.

Militants who perpetrated the horrific ethnic cleansing against Tigrayans are being systematically armed and trained by the government, directly contradicting the agreed-upon disarmament and withdrawal plan. Instead of restoring the pre-conflict administrative status quo, the government is actively working acts that instigate further violence and deepen existing tensions.

Therefore, we urgently call upon all stakeholders to take decisive action to uphold peace and, most importantly, alleviate the immense suffering of IDPs and refugees by facilitating their safe and dignified return to their homeland and restoring their pre-conflict administrative status quo.
