Abiy Ahmed has been working tirelessly to destroy the people of Tigray since he took power. Among those he has classified as threats to his authority are the people of Tigray and from the political forces the TPLF. To eliminate both simultaneously, he has carried out numerous multi-ethnic attacks on the people of Tigray under the guise of targeting the TPLF. Later, under the pretext of law enforcement, he formed an alliance with the Eritrean government and the Amhara invading forces to eradicate the people of Tigray, officially starting a genocidal war in the name of law enforcement.

In response, the people of Tigray waged a bitter struggle for survival, ultimately reversing Abiy Ahmed’s intention to destroy them, culminating in the Pretoria Agreement. The Pretoria Agreement, signed between Abiy Ahmed’s government and the TPLF. The agreement stipulated those under the responsibility of the Abiy Ahmed’s government are basic services, which had been closed for over two years, would resume, non-Ethiopian Defense Forces would withdraw from Tigray, and displaced persons would return to their homes. However, despite signing the agreement, the federal government has failed to fulfill its responsibilities, instead supporting militants in the area with finances, weapons, and political. By issuing guidelines not stipulated in the agreement, Abiy Ahmed has prevented its implementation, achieving his goal of attacking the people of Tigray.

As part of his plan, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held a dinner program with Gondar Town elders, entrepreneurs, and celebrities on the evening of January 16, 2025, in Gonder. After delivering various messages for several minutes, he ordered all cameramen, journalists, and media to stop filming and turn off their cameras. During this private moment, he made a dangerous statement that should be known not only by all Tigrayans but also by the political and military leaders of Tigray and all partners of the Pretoria Agreement.

After ordering the cameras off, he spoke about western Tigray, occupied by the invading forces of Amhara. “We didn’t tell you to let it go. We’ve made it into your hands once by any historical coincidence. Hold this tight; there is nothing more I can do for you. I already trained your army. The rest is up to you. You should strengthen your army. And I know there are people who have settled there before, but it is not enough; you should add more,” he told them firmly.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been training and arming hundreds of thousands of Amhara armed forces in West Tigray and other parts of Tigray through senior generals of the Ethiopian National Defense Force. He continues to arm and train them.

Furthermore, Abiy Ahmed’s wife, Mrs. Zenash Tayachew, who was born in Gondar, is known for her political involvement in the region. By advocating, “This government is yours, and it is in your interest,” she helps prevent protests against Abiy Ahmed in the Gondar area. One example is “West Tigray.” This is also why FANO and other entities in the Gondar area do not oppose Abiy Ahmed. Overall, Abiy Ahmed presents himself as their “Parent-in-law” more than anyone else.

Abiy Ahmed is now advising them to hold on to the land they have invaded. It is clear that he cannot return Western Tigray under the Pretoria Agreement; he has openly confirmed his stance. Abiy Ahmed has no desire to return West Tigray. His goal is to keep the leaders and people of Tigray stumbling with unfulfilled promises.

In this situation, the Vice President of the Tigray Regional Interim Administration and Head of Security Bureau, Lt. General Tadesse Werede, stated in a forum that Abiy Ahmed is deceiving them. He added that they could not return the evacuees because the federal government does not want to evacuate the Amhara militants in West Tigray.

Instead of preparing to counter this deception, the leaders of Tigray are preoccupied with internal power struggles. This disagreement is a significant opportunity for Abiy Ahmed, as it has helped him strengthen his power and continue his plan to destroy the people of Tigray. As a result, millions of IDPs who escaped the massacre in West Tigray are dying of hunger and other problems in other areas of Tigray and Sudan.

In addition to West Tigray, the Northwest, East, and some central Tigray territory are under the control of the Eritrean army with Abiy Ahmed’s permission. This army continues to commit serious crimes such as rape, killing, and looting of public property.

Therefore, as Tigrayans, we must clarify the direction of our struggle. We must have a common understanding and approach to our struggle.
