Urgent Call to End the Humanitarian Crisis in Tigray!
The humanitarian crisis facing internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Tigray continues to worsen. Reports of widespread death and suffering due to hunger and disease are reaching alarming levels, sparking a global movement of “Yiakil” – meaning “Enough!” – demanding an immediate end to this tragedy.
Instead of urgently addressing this crisis, the Ethiopian government has chosen to exacerbate the situation. The renewed displacement of Tigrayans, including blind persons, from Western Tigray is a prime example of this callous disregard for human life. Furthermore, the government’s training of armed militias under the guise of “Yetekeze Zeb” (“Tekeze’s Guards”) with the obvious intention of preventing Tigrayan IDPs from crossing the Tekeze River has intensified the suffering of millions.
Salsay Weyane Tigray reiterates its urgent call upon the Ethiopian government to cease all anti-peace activities. We also reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the struggle to end this crisis and urge all concerned bodies and the international community to give this matter immediate attention.
