The Prime Minister urged the elites of Tigray to resolve their differences through peace and dialogue to ensure the unity of the people.

Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed stated that the people of Tigray continue to live in “rumors of war, fear, and terror,” preventing them from finding peace and stability. He called on the Tigray elites to resolve their differences peacefully.

In a statement delivered yesterday evening, February 4, 2025, Prime Minister Abiy urged the people of Tigray, especially the elites, to recognize that the region’s peoples have been victims of repeated wars. He emphasized the need for collective efforts to bring development and recovery to the region.

The Prime Minister also addressed those engaged in politics, business, security, academia, media, and other sectors, recommending that to advocate for peace, stating, “The price paid so far is enough; there is no profit from war.”

He urged the elites to resolve their internal differences in a way that ensures the unity of the Tigrayan people through peaceful discussions and mutual understanding.

In his various messages, Prime Minister Abiy praised the people of Tigray for their contributions to the establishment of the state. He said, “The people of Tigray have played an important role in saving the country and filling gaps when the central government faced obstacles in different eras.”

Prime Minister Abiy noted that the people of Tigray have spent centuries in war, especially in the last hundred years, involving conflicts with the central government on various occasions. He pointed out the resulting damage, stating, “The land of Tigray has become a battlefield; the people of Tigray have become a tool of war.”

Dr. Abiy stressed that, therefore, the region’s elite should question whether Tigray and its people have gained or lost from the war.

The Prime Minister called on them to be prepared to resolve their disagreements with the federal government and other forces in accordance with the country’s constitution and democratic principles.

He announced his readiness to discuss all issues on behalf of the federal government. In his message, he stated, “I urge you to understand that there is a situation that requires us to work in harmony on national issues that we are in touch with.”

The Prime Minister also urged them to work on saving the public from danger, mothers from sleep deprivation, and youth from migration.

On the contrary, the federal government continues to ignore its responsibilities, offering various reasons for not implementing the Pretoria Agreement. As a result, the suffering of the people of Tigray continues, with displaced people still dying of hunger and disease. The federal government is supporting the Amhara forces in Western Tigray instead of expelling them according to the Pretoria Agreement.
