The European Union has announced its support of 32 billion birr for six development projects, including the rehabilitation of displaced persons in Ethiopia.
Ethiopia and the European Union have signed a development support agreement worth 240 million euros (32.3 billion birr) aimed at implementing six major development initiatives. Among these initiatives is the promotion of stability in conflict-affected areas through improved governance and inclusiveness.
Additionally, the agreement includes plans to restore health facilities impacted by conflict and rehabilitate displaced citizens. Other projects outlined in the agreement aim to boost economic growth by enhancing citizens’ digital skills, creating job opportunities in agriculture, and strengthening democratic institutions.
During the signing ceremony, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shide, highlighted that the support will aid in increasing private sector investment flows, modernizing the tax and customs system, and improving agriculture, health, and education services.
The European Union Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sofie From-Emmesberger, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s sustainable development. She stated that this development support agreement reflects shared values and the pursuit of future development goals.
