TIRA President Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede Announces Exclusive Use of Peaceful Measures for IDP Repatriation and Tigray’s Territorial Integrity.

Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede, President of the Tigray Regional Interim Administration, affirmed that only peaceful measures will be used to facilitate the return of displaced persons and uphold the territorial integrity of Tigray. He made these remarks during a meeting with UK Ambassador to Ethiopia Darren Welch on April 23, 2025, according to a report from the President’s office.

During the discussion, held at the Interim Administration’s office, President Lt. Gen. Tadesse and Ambassador Welch reviewed the implementation of the Pretoria Peace Agreement. Their talks centered on securing Tigray’s territorial integrity, repatriating displaced persons, initiating political dialogue, and advancing the demobilization, disarmament, and reintegration process of the Tigray armed forces.

President Tadesse underscored that the Interim Administration’s primary mission is to ensure the swift and safe return of displaced individuals. He emphasized that this effort would be carried out in collaboration with the federal government, prioritizing a peaceful and structured process to maintain stability in Tigray.

Regarding Tigray’s ongoing political challenges, President Tadesse highlighted plans to host national conferences aimed at resolving key issues through public dialogue and feedback.

Ambassador Welch assured the UK’s support for the Tigray Interim Administration and extended his best wishes to President Tadesse in his tenure. He pledged British assistance in facilitating the repatriation of displaced persons through coordinated efforts with the federal government and in supporting the public conferences organized by the Interim Administration.
