The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has affirmed that its top priority is ensuring the security of the people of Tigray and safeguarding the region’s sovereignty.

“This is why we have been calling for the implementation of the Pretoria Agreement, an end to the suffering and deaths of our people, and respect for Tigray’s sovereignty,” the TPLF stated in its weekly message issued yesterday. However, instead of adhering to the agreement it signed, the Ethiopian government continues to destabilize the region, hindering efforts to rebuild Tigray’s devastated economy.

The TPLF further alleged that the Ethiopian government has disregarded its commitment under the Pretoria Agreement to withdraw forces that have occupied Tigray’s sovereign territory, instead choosing to reinforce militants through various means. Additionally, the TPLF announced that militants continue to abduct, kill, and assault Tigrayans based on their identity.

Reports indicate that nearly 300 people per week are being displaced, seeking refuge in Sheraro each month. This ongoing crisis continues to alarm the people of Tigray, who had hoped to return to their homeland. The TPLF argues that this sustained displacement further demonstrates the Ethiopian government’s failure to uphold the Pretoria Agreement, effectively prolonging the systematic extermination of Tigray’s population.

Furthermore, the statement announced that the Ethiopian government is blocking and disrupting access to Tigray by imposing unreasonable restrictions, preventing fuel deliveries, and halting critical development projects, irrigation efforts, and investment activities.

The disruptions are also creating severe obstacles to the timely delivery of aid from donors, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn region. The TPLF emphasized that the supply of fuel to Tigray should not be subject to the discretion of different parties but must follow established protocols and procedures.

In its conclusion, the statement asserted that not only has the Ethiopian government failed to implement the Pretoria Agreement, but it has also introduced additional restrictions aimed at weakening Tigray. The TPLF called on the government to fulfill its responsibilities and facilitate the immediate return of displaced individuals to their homes.
