TPLF Accuses Ethiopian Government of Preparing for Renewed Conflict, Urges International Intervention.
The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) has accused the Ethiopian federal government of making “clear moves to wage another round of war” and called on the international community to intervene and prevent renewed hostilities.
In a statement issued on Sunday, November 2, 2025, marking the third anniversary of the Pretoria Agreement—which formally ended the Tigray war—the TPLF expressed deep concern over what it described as the government’s failure to uphold the terms of the accord. The TPLF, a signatory to the permanent cessation of hostilities agreement, claimed that key provisions of the deal remain unimplemented.
In its statement, the TPLF urged both regional and global organizations to closely monitor the situation and respond accordingly. It also called for an urgent meeting of the African Union.
“We urge the African Union to convene a panel to evaluate the current status of the peace agreement and to advocate for the cessation of hostility agreement to evolve into a comprehensive and lasting peace,” the statement read.
According to the statement, the two-year genocidal war inflicted severe suffering on the people of Tigray, including “massacres,” “sexual violence,” “displacement,” and widespread “looting” and “destruction” of property. The TPLF asserted Pretoria Agreement was signed to end the war and its devastating consequences, the conflict has effectively “continued for five years with a silent genocide.”
The TPLF further stated that displaced Tigrayans have been unable to return to their homes and that those remaining in occupied areas continue to face “killings,” “abductions,” and persecution “based on their identity.”
“The process of justice and accountability, as well as political dialogue regarding the origins and resolution of the war, has not begun,” the statement read. It criticized the Ethiopian government and other stakeholders for failing to deliver tangible outcomes, stating, “Overall, the Pretoria Agreement has dragged on for three years without producing the expected results.”
The TPLF cited the federal government’s “failure to implement the agreement reached in Pretoria” as a primary reason for the current impasse. It also blamed “negotiating countries, continental institutions, and individuals” for not ensuring that the agreement was carried out in the spirit and momentum with which it was signed.
The statement also accused the government of violating its obligations under the accord, alleging it has engaged in a “continuous propaganda campaign” and “defamation” targeting the people of Tigray and their institutions. It further claimed that the government is “working to turn the people of Tigray against each other by recruiting, training, and organizing militants.”
“Furthermore, it is clearly taking steps to dismantle the Pretoria Agreement and wage another round of war,” the TPLF warned.
Concluding its statement, the TPLF cautioned that any renewed conflict would result in “very serious harm in all its forms.” It urged the federal government to recognize that “differences cannot be resolved through war” and to fulfill its responsibilities by implementing the Pretoria Agreement and embracing political dialogue as a path to peace.
