Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Arrives in Addis Ababa for Two-Day Working Visit.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Addis Ababa on Tuesday for his first-ever two-day working visit to Ethiopia, which officials have reportedly described as historic.
Prime Minister Modi was welcomed at Bole International Airport by Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Gideon Timotheos, and other senior government officials.
During his stay, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold discussions with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed on key issues including investment and cyber security.
Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia Anil Kumar Rai earlier stated that the two leaders will engage in extensive talks covering a wide range of bilateral concerns, such as investment, agriculture, mining development, digital infrastructure, and cyber security.
The House of People’s Representatives announced that Prime Minister Modi will address a joint session of the 6th House of People’s Representatives and the 5th Annual General Meeting of the House of Federation tomorrow.
In addition, Modi is scheduled to meet with Ethiopia’s Indian community, which numbers around 2,500, and participate in cultural and welcoming events organized in his honor.
According to the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit will reaffirm the two countries’ shared commitment as partners in the Global South and strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors.
