Salsay Weyane Tigray Condemns Drone Strike and Service Suspensions
The political party Salsay Weyane Tigray has issued a statement today February 2, 2026, denouncing what it describes as unlawful government actions that have intensified the crisis in the region.
According to the party, a recent government-conducted drone strike in Tigray resulted in civilian deaths and injuries. At the same time, financial and aviation services were suspended, a move the party says revives “collective punishment tactics” that disproportionately harm ordinary citizens.
The statement argues that these measures not only violate legal norms but also escalate tensions further. It accuses the government of failing to meet key demands, including the withdrawal of external forces, restoration of constitutional order, and the creation of safe conditions for displaced persons and refugees to return. Instead, the party claims, appeals for constructive dialogue have been met with renewed blockades.
Salsay Weyane Tigray is calling on the Ethiopian government to reverse these actions and pursue de-escalation. The party also urged international actors—including the African Union, European Union, and the United States—to move beyond expressions of concern and apply meaningful pressure to halt military escalation, violence, and humanitarian suffering.
