Restrictions Deepen Humanitarian Crisis as Conflict Fears Grow in Tigray
— The political party Salsay Weyane Tigray has issued a stark warning about rising tensions in Ethiopia’s northern region, cautioning that the shadow of war once again looms over Tigray.
In a statement released today February 9, 2026, the party said restrictions on transport, fuel, and cash have deepened the humanitarian crisis, leaving residents fearful of renewed conflict.
“The shadow of war is once again hovering over the skies of Tigray, generating grave concern and fear among the population,” the release stated.
The political party urged all sides to exercise restraint, stressing that another round of fighting would harm not only Tigrayans but Ethiopians across the country. It specifically called on the federal government to ease tensions and address what it described as the “legitimate demands” of the people of Tigray. These include the dignified and voluntary return of internally displaced persons (IDPs), restoration of occupied territories, and solutions to ongoing services related challenges.
Salsay Weyane Tigray also appealed to political actors in both Tigray and Ethiopia to resist mobilization for war “under any pretext.”
Finally, the party called on international and regional stakeholders to play a constructive role in preventing what it warned could become a “potentially catastrophic conflict.”
