Eritrean President Meets Saudi Delegation in Asmara

The Eritrean Ministry of Information announced that President Isaias Afwerki met with a Saudi delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Bin Abdulkarim al-Khereiji in Asmara on Thursday. The talks were held at the Denden Guest House.

According to the ministry, the discussions focused on strengthening the long-standing bilateral relations between Eritrea and Saudi Arabia. Both sides agreed to implement cooperation agreements across political, economic, security, cultural, and social sectors.

The ministry further noted that the meeting included an exchange of views on regional and international developments, with particular emphasis on the role of Red Sea nations in promoting peace and stability amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

This engagement follows a series of recent high-level contacts. In December 2025, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted President Isaias in Riyadh, where the two leaders explored ways to expand bilateral cooperation.

More recently, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah visited Addis Ababa, meeting with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed. Their talks was centered on bilateral relations, regional security, and migration-related cooperation. Prime Minister Abiy emphasized the importance of strengthening the historic relationship, expanding collaboration in key areas, and enhancing coordination on regional and global issues.

These diplomatic exchanges highlight the growing geopolitical interest in the Red Sea corridor, a strategic link between the Horn of Africa and the Gulf region.
