Salsay Weyane Tigray Urges Urgent Action on Worsening Humanitarian Crisis
The political party Salsay Weyane Tigray has issued a stark warning about the deteriorating humanitarian situation facing internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees in the region, calling for immediate intervention from government authorities, international partners, and humanitarian organizations.
In a statement released Monday, the party said that severe shortages of food, medicine, and other essential supplies continue to plague displacement camps, leading to preventable deaths and placing thousands of vulnerable lives at risk. With the planting season approaching, the opposition party cautioned that inaction could trap displaced communities in another cycle of dependency and deprivation.
➨ “Addressing the plight of IDPs and refugees is not only a moral and humanitarian imperative but also a critical step toward resolving the broader instability in the region,” the statement read.
The party criticized what it described as a “troubling and sustained silence” surrounding the crisis, warning that neglect could exacerbate tensions and undermine prospects for sustainable peace. It urged stakeholders to recommit to a genuine peace process that addresses the legitimate demands and aspirations of the people of Tigray.
Salsay Weyane emphasized that restoring Tigray’s territory and ensuring the repatriation of displaced persons must be prioritized to pave the way for stability, justice, and dignity. The group called for swift and decisive action to break the deadlock and prevent further suffering.
