The Tigray Education Bureau has announced that over five billion dollars are required to rehabilitate the education sector in the Tigray region.

It has been announced that 5.65 billion dollars will be needed to allow the education sector of the Tigray region to fully recover, which was declared to have been devastated by the genocidal war in Tigray.

This information was revealed during discussions held by the education office with stakeholders regarding the state of the region’s education sector, the destruction caused by the war, and the necessary steps for complete recovery.

To assess the damage caused to schools by the war, the Tigray Education Bureau conducted a study on 2,054 schools located in Mekele, the capital of the region, and in five zones.

The results of the study indicated that there are 1,238 partially destroyed schools in the east, southeast, south, central, and northwest zones of Mekele city. Additionally, 575 schools were completely destroyed, with the central Tigray zone having the highest number of completely destroyed schools, with 195 schools completely destroyed and 381 partially damaged schools.
