The opposition political party Salsay Weyane Tigray has issued a strong statement demanding immediate intervention to alleviate the suffering of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Tigray. The party warns that the humanitarian crisis has reached catastrophic levels, with hundreds of displaced individuals succumbing to hunger and lack of medical care.
According to the press release, displaced communities are pleading for swift action from the Government of Ethiopia and the international community to facilitate their return home before the rainy season begins. The statement describes the crisis as the culmination of five years of hardship, exacerbated by political maneuvering that has left vulnerable populations stranded.
Salsay Weyane Tigray condemns what it describes as the Ethiopian government and the TPLF’s failure to address the crisis, accusing them of using displaced individuals as political leverage. The party calls for decisive humanitarian intervention, urging all stakeholders to prioritize the well-being of affected communities.
