Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede, President of the Tigray Interim Administration, has called for a thorough investigation into the crime of genocide committed during the war in the Tigray region. He emphasized the need for justice, accountability, and measures to ensure such atrocities never occur again.

Speaking at a consultation forum on June 16, 2025, titled “Collection and Preservation of Material Evidence Indicating Genocidal Acts in Tigray,” organized by the Tigray Genocide Inquiry Commission, the President stressed the importance of preserving evidence for future accountability.

“We must ensure that the evidence of the genocide committed in Tigray is preserved in a way that will not be lost over time and remains intact for generations,” the President said. “Must be carefully safeguarded until justice and full accountability are secured.”

He commended the commission’s work but urged further efforts to strengthen documentation and accountability.

The President reiterated that the genocide against the people of Tigray must be meticulously recorded, justice delivered, and preventive measures implemented to protect future generations from similar tragedies.
